As a result of the takeover, REMONDIS has extended its service portfolio (RE DEPOSIT) to include smart take-back technologies. As a result, REMONDIS will in future be able to offer all the service modules for collection systems that will be created within the framework of the European Circular Economy Action Plan towards more separate collections and closed material cycles.
The transaction provides for REMONDIS to continue its business with intelligent take-back technology in Germany. Internationally, further collection systems for the separate collection of recyclable materials will be created as part of the implementation of the Single Use Plastics Directive. By providing intelligent take-back technologies, REMONDIS wants to support developments towards a true materials cycle economy. REMONDIS will take over the production of the reverse vending machines at the Ilmenau site as well as the national service business within Germany.
"With this sale, Diebold Nixdorf Retail is consistently implementing its market strategy and focusing on the software, service and technology partnership for retailers in the checkout area. We are certain that REMONDIS’ integrated business model will generate added value and that the company is therefore a good strategic fit as the future owner of this business unit," said Hermann Wimmer, who as Senior Vice President Global Retail is responsible for this business unit at Diebold Nixdorf worldwide, explaining the agreement.
"The purchase of the DN Technology vending machine construction division and the DN Retail service business is an important step for REMONDIS towards becoming a full-service provider in the environmental service sector. As a result, we can offer customers in Germany and many other countries comprehensive recycling solutions. Together with DN Technology and DN Retail, our range of services extends from taking back high quality recyclable materials, reverse logistics, sorting and recycling to producing high quality recycled raw materials which can also be returned to their original applications," said Ralf Mandelatz, managing director of REMONDIS Recycling.
"REMONDIS wants to make its contribution on the way to a real, closed-loop material cycle economy. An elementary component of this is to create smart take-back solutions which make it possible to process the waste into high-quality recycled raw materials at a later stage," he continued.
